The Ridge House

Overview

The Ridge House is a 1962 Joseph Esherick-era residence set into a private half-acre ridge in Mill Valley's Cascade Canyon. Originally commissioned by a professor of architecture, the home was quietly and respectfully renovated in 2023 by the original owner's granddaughter, an interior architect based in Los Angeles.

The main floor opens to a ninety-degree view of the Northern Marin watershed through twelve feet of continuous glass. A new walnut kitchen sits at the hinge between the formal and informal wings, and a separate studio — added in 2009 — works as a guest suite or detached office.

Throckmorton Ridge is one of four ridges defining the Cascade Canyon micro-neighborhood, known for quiet modernist homes and deep garden lots. Mill Valley's downtown, the ferry terminal, and Tam Junction are each a short drive; San Francisco is typically 25 minutes across the bridge.
